From President Anne

On Monday, our newly inducted Member, who until 2017 had been a member of Rotary Balwyn, Bill Goodwin gave us some insight into his experiences and we enjoyed hearing about his long time passion for rowing.

Next we traveled by boat on the F deck to Acapulco and this was the budget adventure. The stories and pictures were captivating as he traveled the Inca trail. In 1979, Bill met Julie, they were married and had their daughter Amy.

Bill shared images and explanations of some of the architectural work he had been involved with including the Melbourne City Baths.

Finally he shared some images of his cartoons and caricatures which had us all laughing and his recent passion for painting landscapes. As always, having knowledge of each others passions and experiences is invaluable.

Bill sharing some great life stories

Bill also provided a question for all to answer which was won by Mark Dobson who also chaired the evening.

The prize was a print of one of Bill's cartoons - with a Boomerang in King Tut's tomb!

Mark wins the prize!

On Monday we also passed the Volunteer Marine Rescue project and also the Interact $1000 budget.

Ray Martin was the lucky winner of our game and he kindly shared his winnings.

This week is committee week. There is no International meeting for August but Community Service will be meeting at Degani's 7.30 am on Monday and Youth Service at 6pm for dinner with the meeting commencing at 6.30 pm at the Mornington Hotel. Membership will be the following Monday 11th at 4.30 in the Stratton Room.

Padua Mock Interviews

Year 12 16.9.25 and  Year 11 28.10.25

Many of you are old hands at interviews – moChange ck oChange nes and real ones – and good hands too! I am looking for volunteers to participate in mock interviews at Padua College.

On Tuesday September 16th from 11.30 am till 3pm we will have the wonderful opportunity to interview and examine the portfolios of the Year 12 VCE Vocational Major students. These students are those who are not going to university but looking to get an apprenticeship. This day will really help prepare them for going to prospective employers and gaining employment/apprenticeships.

On Tuesday October 28th we have the opportunity to interview the Year 11 VCE Vocational Major students. Again, these students are looking to gain apprenticeships/employment and not go to university. Times to be confirmed closer to the date but most likely we will start in the morning and go into the early afternoon

If you can help on either or both of these days can you please text me on 0419 138 187 or email me at phylscales@yahoo.com Lunch &  tea/coffee will be provided. Even if you can help for only part of the day, your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

RORP Cambodia

Finally, the last container that departed the New Peninsula Church arrived in Siem Reap, Northern Cambodia recently.

They had to unload from the truck, I suspect to avoid crane costs .....and so the container can make its way back to the port to avoid demurrage costs.

Now we await some installation photo.
