Rotary Mount Martha this week

Last Monday we were updated on the Ingin Midwifes Hut project by International Chair, Mark, which is now taking the next steps to be built to serve the villagers in the PNG Southern Highlands. $5,550 was transferred this week for the first stage of the project construction and we look forward to receiving progress reports through Moses and from PNG directly.

Youth Chair Peter also kept us informed on what is happening with the BGS Interact and news of his own post graduate studies which we applaud.

Club Community Liaison Anne kept us up to date on our various site visits and events, all listed on the RCMM Events listed above.

And following a meeting this week of the Portsea Camp planning team, Peter Clifton (Rotary Sorrento) will guest speak on Monday 21 September at which time we will be joined by some fellow Rotarians and clubs to hear more on this most valuable camp opportunity for 12 - 17 year olds with additional needs.

RCMM BBQ trailer

As our Community Chair Wayne and his team maintain our precious and prized BBQ trailer, next weekend we will be down at Mount Martha Life Saving Club to support the Mental Health Safety Net's “Together We Dip” … read on below!

What's coming up….

On Monday 24 August we have a Membership Meeting with Chair Bernie at TMH at 5pm. All welcome.

This Monday 24 August we will have as our guest speaker, Gemma Hughes, Team Leader at Fusion, Mornington Peninsula together with Luke West.

Next Monday 31 August we have NO MEETING.

MHSN “Together We Dip” 30.8.26

Join Mental Health Safety Net (MHSN) for Together We Dip – A community coming together for mental health.

Together, we'll step into the bay. Whether you choose a quick splash, a waist-deep wade, or a full plunge, the moment is about showing up for one another and reminding each other that no one has to face life's challenges alone.

Together We Dip is a powerful reminder that we are stronger together. Every ripple created as we enter the water represents the impact we can have when we stand beside each other, start conversations, and support mental health in our community.

This is an event for everyone. Come with family, friends, colleagues, or on your own. You'll be joining a community of people who believe that connection matters.

Rotary Mount Martha and Mount Martha Life Saving Club will once again be helping make the morning a welcoming and safe experience. Volunteer lifesavers will be on duty throughout the event, providing support for everyone taking part in the dip, while the Rotary Club will be serving up a free BBQ breakfast for the first 100 attendees.

You’ll also hear from our CEO, Mick Simmons, connect with others, and celebrate the start of spring together.

Date: Sunday 30 August 2026

Time: 9am to 10am

Location: Mount Martha Life Saving Club, 148 Esplanade, Mount Martha Free Entry!

There is no ticket to purchase, but please register if you are planning to join us (and please list anyone accompanying you)

While this is a free community event, donations are warmly welcomed. Every contribution helps Mental Health Safety Net continue delivering lifesaving suicide prevention education across our community.

Padua College Interviews

Padua College Year 12 Professional Portfolio Interviews

Once again Padua College has asked for our support for their  VCE Vocational Major Students Portfolio Interviews. These year 12 students are looking at finding employment rather than going on to university. There are approximately 50 students to be interviewed. The interviews are scheduled for Tuesday September 15

Start and finish times would depend on the number of volunteers we get. If you are able to assist for any part of the day could you please let Phyl Scales know as soon as possible by text message on 0419138187 or by email at phylscales@yahoo.com  Phyl won't be at Rotary meeting this month due to other commitments so a text or email is the only way to contact her. As always she would really appreciate your support in assisting these students.

Padua College Year 11 Mock Interviews

There are 30 VCE Vocational Major Year 11 students to be interviewed on Monday October 19 from 11 am to 1.30pm

Once again if you are available for this program could you please let Phyl Scales know by text message on 0419138187 or by email at phylscales@yahoo.com

The Briars

Our own Kevin Gibson, a long standing volunteer at The Briars is encouraging members of our club and the wider community to consider these opportunities.

H5 bird flu

As Australia is currently dealing with our first mainland detection of H5 bird flu in wild birds, Kevin Gibson our Environment Chair has asked us to be aware but not alarmed.
