From President Anne

It was very interesting last Monday to hear from our two newest members.

First we heard from Kevin Gibson who has been a Mount Martha resident for over 50 years. We heard of his varied career path which included agriculture, radio technician, RAAF, Helicopter Resources at Tyabb becoming chef engineer, and travelling to Papua New Guinea and Antartica, then to Lysaghts in Hastings. He wanted to join the Navy but his mother said no because he couldn’t swim.

Kevin has spent 17 years as a volunteer at the Briars as well as volunteering with Moorooduc CFA and various organisations with his passion for birds.

Michael Jones talked about his long association with Mount Martha from his childhood as his grandfather owned a holiday house which was frequently visited.
Michael achieved a double degree in Political Science and sociology.

In his early twenties he worked for the Liberal Party and developed policies on Education, Transport and Health. The remuneration for this job was very interesting and when you see Michael, ask him about it.
He went on to work for Bed, Bath and Table working in the office alongside the General Manager and Manager where he worked on developing a home brand as a point of difference, it was called Morgan and Finch. Michael worked on product development and manufacturing and in the late eighties was visiting China 3-4 times a year.

With the skills he developed he started his own business which he ran for fifteen years.

It really highlighted the diversity of skills and knowledge that each of our members bring to our club!

This week our Club Projects committees will meet.
