Bunnings

A busy week for our club this past week with the Bunnings family fun evening on Thursday night followed by the Sausage sizzle and cake sales at Bunnings BBQ on Friday where we made around $800 from the BBQ plus donations to our homeless plus cake sales.

Cakes

We have a number of cakes and puddings still available so please text or call me if you would like any more and I will bring along on Monday night.

Boardwalk Meeting

On Tuesday at 2 pm I encourage as many of you as possible to join me behind Wok On Bay at our playground fence area to put our case to Council officers that Option 1 for the boardwalk is what we support, reinstating in it’s current alignment.
Rotary hats/ shirts would be great.

"Rotary Corner"

Now while we are there we can have a look at "Rotary Corner" behind the clock tower building where Bernie and Mark have done a tremendous job preparing for a new cage for our Containers 4 Community.

Padua Kindergarten and Village BBQ

On Friday evening there is a BBQ at Padua Kindergarten .
Saturday we will be at the Village, we will be handing out sausages to the community we will accept gold coin donations.

We thank the Community Bank Mount Martha for their generous support. We will also be selling any remaining cakes.

Christmas Dinner 16.12.24

Please let me know if you are attending our Christmas dinner, I would encourage everyone to pay on Monday night if possible.
Please refer to notice below including meal option.

Hickinbotham's 8.1.25

We have locked in Hickinbothams of Dromana for our first gathering of 2025, they are opening especially for us on Wednesday 8th January at 6pm, it will be $30 per head and we will send out an invitation next week once I have finalised the Christmas dinner.

Bentons Square

This week at Bentons Square shopping centre they are having an event “Sweeten the Season “. We thank the center and manager Chi Le for their ongoing support.

The three charities that donations can be gifted to are Rotary Club of Mount Martha, Mornington Community Support Centre and Mental Health Safety Net. I am so proud of our community engagement at Bentons and introducing the other two recipient charities.

Please enjoy being a part of this and put any donation gifts in the Rotary Mount Martha Candy Cane.

Scratch & Win: Scratch your card to reveal an instant win - either a fantastic prize for you or a donation $ amount - we've got $5000 in Instant Win Prizes and Community Donations to give away!

Make a Difference: If your card reveals a donation amount, you’ll have the chance to support a local community cause. Simply drop your card in one of our three candy canes, each representing a different local community group (find more information on the Community groups below)

See the Impact: At the end of the promotion, we’ll tally up the donations in each candy cane and pass the total amounts to the community groups. Your support will help make a meaningful difference in their work!

Christmas Baubles

The baubles are looking fantastic and this weekend there are a couple of post covers going up outside Warlimont and Nutt, made by community member Jo Lovelock.

I would also like to express our gratitude to Peter Barnet who kindly printed the stick on labels for our baubles, thank you Peter and Avenue Press Pty Ltd.
Merv & Christine – volunteering in Cambodia.

Assisted in two projects
  • LRDE (Phonh Penh) – Supporting the Les Restaurants Des Enfants (L.R.D.E.) school. Break the poverty cycle by providing food, education and medical supplies to the street children of Phnom Phen. Providing education, daily meal to children from a slum area.
  • Supporting Vision Cambodia (Siem Reap) – supporting education, health services and clean water to regional villages.
These programs are registered with Rotary Australia World Community Service which enables the volunteers to participate in the projects.

This is a brief outline of what we achieved over the 14 days.
15 volunteer team members consisting of Rotary Club members  and non Rotary club members from Victoria, NSW and QLD

LRDE program – children living in a slum area in Phonh Penh attend one of the schools set up by LRDE and the RAWCS project funds provide support to the children with education and one healthy meal each day. School uniform provided to child.

We packed 2 tonne of rice into 10 kg bags - which is provided to each family once a month on condition that their children are attending the school. Good way of ensuring the children attend school

We assisted with shopping for additional food supplies and medical needs. The funds donated by the Rotary club was used for additional medical supplies for the centre.
The donated clothing from the club members/families and the BGS Interact Club were distributed to the children.

Project with Vision Cambodia in Siem Reap. This project works in remote regional areas consisting of small villages. It provides support to establishing new school buildings, educational supplies, supporting regional health centres and clean water projects.

We packed 650 school packs (consisting of 8 text books, 3 biros, pencil, ruler, eraser, sharpener) which was provided to students at 4 remote schools - sufficient for full year of school learning.
The Rotary club donation was also used to purchase Medical supplies and additional school packs

Donated baby clothes were put into baby packs which were handed to each new mum and baby. 6 babies born in one day at one of the health centres.

Clean water projects - funding provided to provide water bore and pump - clean water to village and schools. Over 150 water bores have been provided by Rotary Clubs / donors in Australia. Over 1000 water bores have been established through external donations.

A truly wonderful experience in helping those from developing countries.
