from President Anne
Last week was a project meeting and Roger Annear gave a presentation on the Rotary Foundation.
The first contribution to the Foundation was $26.50 from the Rotary Club of Kansas City in 1917. It was some years before the first grant was given, $500 to the International Crippled Children.
In 1985 Polio Plus was established to eliminate polio through vaccination, this program has seen 2.5 billion children immunised, 99.9% of the world population.
Our club has contributed over $175000 US over 51 years to the Foundation.
Peter Warren was applauded for collecting the 700000th eligible container and was presented with a full bottle to celebrate.
We also heard from Peter Wiltshire and supported the nomination of former BGS Interact President Tin Tin Clinch for the RYLA program in July.
Ray Martin updated us on International and how he presented to 40 clubs regarding our Ingin project and hopefully this will garner more support. Ray has successfully made progress on the birthing kits and on the 30th March we will be having a fun evening encouraging partners to attend, we will assemble the 200 kits so they can be sent to Ingin.
Captain RORP, Wayne Jenkins updated us on the amazing work with RORP ( Rotary Overseas Relocated Playgrounds), the district is supplying around 35 playgrounds a year. 330 plus playgrounds in eight years have been sent overseas with over 100 from District 9815.
This is an incredible project which brings joy to children in countries that would never have the opportunity to play on a playground without the great work of RORP.
Bill Goodwin received his “Bin Chicken Badge”
This week we are holding our Committee Meetings.
Kevin and Bill joined BERG for Clean Up Australia Day and collected four full bags of waste - plus another bag of Containers 4 Community. Kevin noted that BERG do an exceptional job and they appreciate the support of Rotary Mount Martha.
