"Mount Martha Rotary is a group of dedicated volunteers who believe in service above self and building community. We are involved in a diverse range of activities that strive to improve life for others."
Chrestyna gave an honest assessment of what is happening today in the Ukraine.
Teresa provided an overview of how RAWCS has partnered to bring relief and humanitarian aid to many Ukrainian's since the war began.
What has gone on for over 1,600 days (longer than WW1)?
And what has displaced 10 million people including 8,000 in Australia?
Why do 10.8 million people need humanitarian assistance?
And why has Australia given more than $1.8 billion in support?
Answer: Russia’s invasion of Ukraine
On Monday night Chrestyna Kmetja Director of the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) and Teresa Lachowicz Ukraine Aid Coordinator of AFUO.
The humanitarian crisis caused by Russia’s illegal invasion of a sovereign democracy was highlighted. The Ukrainian Crisis Appeal which has partnered with Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) has touched millions of lives already:
• 1.2 million people supported with food and clothing
• 77,000+ people receiving mental health care
• $29 million in medical aid delivered, including 11 ambulances
• $260,000 in emergency winterisation – generators, power banks and fuel
• 140,000 safe shelter placements provided
• 742,000+ hygiene and first-aid kits distributed
Every number represents a life — a child, a parent, a family — given hope and we thank Chrestyna and Teresa for their voice and action for the people of the Ukraine.

Rotary Mount Martha donations
This week we received news from the Community Bank Mount Martha that we will be receiving a sponsorship this year for $2,500 to cover the outgoings on our Village BBQ's. This arrangement allows us to receive donations from our sausage sizzle sales with costs covered by this sponsorship. We thank the Community Bank Mount Martha for their generous and ongoing support.
We recently received Community Supporter sponsorshipsof $1,000 each from Warlimont & Nutt Real Estate, OBrien Real Estate Mornington and Rawlings Featherstone Financial Solutions and we thank these three local businesses for their generous and ongoing support.
We donated $720 this week towards teaching support at The School of St Jude, a school which educate bright students from the poorest areas of Northern Tanzania, empowering them to be future leaders.
