The club has undertaken a number of projects at the Mornington Park Primary School such as landscaping, building minor works and certain maintenance/improvement tasks, to assist schools channelling funds into programs for needy children
The latest project was the re-development of an outdoor area at the school. The work shown, was the building of 3 planter boxes for planting vegetables for the kitchen garden program. Rotarians worked with Jeff and Glen from the school and school students filled the boxes with the soil.
The final phase will be the planting of trees and shrubs around the perimeter of the paved area.

New Additions for Mornington Park School
The purpose was to build a new bike enclosure to provide easier access for parents and children to place their bicycles on arrival at school and to provide an enclosure which is secure and weatherproof.  The existing bicycle enclosure was a very basic structure which provided little security or weather protection for the bicycles. Because of the security issue, bicycles had been stolen during the day hence many parents would not let children ride to school. Funding for the project came from Rotary Club fundraising projects and a Rotary Foundation District Grant.

Two shipping containers which existed at the site were moved into an exact suitable location on a bitumen  paved area to form two sides of the enclosure. This required some use of heavy machinery. Purlins (steel beams) were purchased to span between the containers; Brackets were manufactured to attach the purlins to the containers; Manufacture of woven wire front and rear of the enclosure with a gate at the front; Steel roofing sheets were attached across the purlins to create a weatherproof roof.

With the onset of the Corona Virus pandemic and associated rules of physical distancing and safety concerns for members, it was necessary to engage some external assistance part way through the project to ensure completion. Thank you to Buchanan Cranes.

The project has now been completed and when school resumes bicycles will be held in a secure weather proof enclosure at the school for the first time. The School Principal has contacted our club expressing her gratitude for the great result.
